A Hartlepool store has given its commitment to helping people with dementia.

Representatives from the Alzeiheimers Society paid a visit to the Specsavers site in the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre in Hartlepool.

Store director Ian Walker said: “They came and delivered an interesting awareness session to our staff. We are now classed as Dementia Friends.

“The session was very informative and thought-provoking and challenged some of our preconceptions regarding dementia. It caught our imagination so much that already the staff are organising some fundraising.”

Rebecca Scott, the society’s community fundraiser for the region, said: “The session in Hartlepool went really well and the people at Specsavers are really nice.”

She urged organisations which are considering hosting a society visit, to go to www.dementiafriends.org.uk to find the session nearest them.
