Hartlepool stalker left around 200 voicemails for his victim

A man who left hundreds of voicemails for a woman and monitored her emails is facing a prison sentence.

The case was heard at Teesside Crown Court.

Karl Leighton, 29, of Church Street, Hartlepool, admitted stalking between April and June of this year.

A short plea hearing at Teesside Crown Court was told Leighton left about 200 voicemails for his victim.

Judge Stephen Ashurst said a probation report would be needed to assess the level of risk Leighton posed to women.

The judge told him: "All sentencing options will be open when you come to be sentenced, including custody.

"Any time you spend on remand will count towards a prison sentence, if that is what you get."

Leighton was remanded in custody until August 6 when it is expected he will be sentenced.
