A charitable student is preparing to embark on a Chinese adventure to raise funds for Macmillan.
Megan Grocott, 20, from Fens in Hartlepool, will trek across China this year in the hope of raising £3,500 for Macmillan Cancer Care.
Megan who is studying Childhood and Youth Studies at Teeside University needs to raise £1,600 to pay for the trip, with the rest of fthe money going to the charity.
She hopes members of the public will get behind her to help her reach her target.
“I have done fundraising for Macmillan before and so when they emailed me the opportunity to do it back in January and I thought it was something that I wanted to do,” she said.
“My auntie had cancer when she was younger, she is fine now, but I just wanted to help out. I will be doing the trek in April, but I will be going on my own so I am a little nervous about it.”
Megan will meet the 40 others taking part in the China Hiking Challenge for Macmillan at Heathrow Airport before embarking on the 11-day guided trek through China on April 22.
On her Just Giving Page she has raised £2,524.39 towards her target.
“Those taking part have to be over the age of 18 and must be fit enough to do it, so I have done a little bit of training,” she said.
“We will spend 11 days in China and will be walking for nine of them with two days free in Beijing. “
So far Megan has raised funds through events such as a Macmillan Big Night In and plans to hold other fundraising events in the New Year including a race night,
