The academy emerged as the leading senior school in town for the highest proceeds raised towards the annual Poppy collection.

Dave Barker and Alan Lakey, of the Rotary Club of Hartlepool, went along to a presentation of a trophy to the students. Academy principal Mrs Anne Malcolm introduced them to the assembled students of Year 9 as well as to staff.

Alan said: “David then spoke about their achievement in being the leading senior school in Hartlepool in producing the highest proceeds towards the Poppy Collection and congratulated them on this excellent result. It is the fourth time they have done so.

“In his remarks on the matter of Remembrance and in particular the poppy’s significance, he asked the pupils how many had relatives who had served or who were serving in the Armed Forces. The resultant show of hands was amazing.”

Mrs Malcolm said she was so proud of the students fundraising efforts for the Royal British Legion and that it was “really important to honour, remember and respect our service men and women.”
