Hartlepool teen Georgia will lose her locks for charity

College student Georgia Barnes, 17, is determined to back Macmillan by parting with her flowing locks later this month.

She will brave the charity shave on Saturday, March 19, at 2.30pm – in a public fundraiser to take place at the Heugh Gun Battery in Hartlepool.

Proud mum Sarah Bedford, 41, who is also mother to son Ben, 11, and Anastasia, seven weeks, said: “She just wanted to do something for charity and she has chosen Macmillan.

“Her original target was £250 but we are already half- way there. If Georgia sets her mind to something she will do it, and she has very long hair.”

And once the task is completed, the hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust,which provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Georgia is a student at Hartlepool College of Further Education, where she is studying early years child care.

But on March 19, she will be in the expert hands of hairdresser Thomas Wheeler for her head shave.

Collection boxes to support Georgia will be available at the Heugh Battery, where people can also get sponsorship forms.

Georgia’s big day is one of a series of events on the way at the Hartlepool site.

The first in a series of book sales will be held at the battery on Saturday. It will then be held on the first Saturday in each month.

An Easter craft fair will be held on Saturday, March 26, from 10am. It will host crafted items from local people. Any crafters interested in having a stall can book them for £10.

The Easter Sunday event will see a full programme of activities including an Easter egg hunt, egg and spoon races, egg decorating competition, and egg rolling.

Activities for the younger generation will continue on Wednesday, April 6, when the battery hopes to hold the biggest Teddy Bear’s picnic in Hartlepool, starting from 1pm.
