She urged interested people to contact her as soon as they could.

Auditions will be held at the society’s hall, which is in Glamorgan Grove, in Hartlepool. Anyone wanting to come forward will be given their own audition time slot.

Sarah, who is the musical director of the junior section of the stage society, added: “The musical was written by David Essex and is based on songs from the album of the same name.

The story follows Levi Lee, a fairground worker, and his son Jack.

“Jack falls in love with Alice, and her father Harvey is not happy.”

The story, she said, followed “the tangled lives of the fairground folk, and all the fun of the fair”.

The society has just marked its 60th year in existence. It was formerly known as the Gilbert & Sullivan Society.

It was based in Walmsley Hall, which was in Osborne Road, Hartlepool, before it moved to the Stage Society Hall, in the Throston Grange Community Centre.

As well as the long-running senior section, there is also a junior society, which was formed in September 2012.

Sarah can be contacted on 07882 576863 and the show takes place at the end of June.
