A HARTLEPOOL United fan is all set to fly out to America to referee in a prestigious football youth tournament.

Will Pare has been chosen as one of eight English representatives to officiate at the Dallas Cup tournament, which begins on Sunday, April 13.

The 26-year-old will be refereeing the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt, LA Galaxy, River Plate, Boca Juniors, Fulham and Anderlecht in the competition, which dates back to 1980. It’s a tournament which Pools have competed in twice in the past, with the youth team winning their section of the competition back in 2004.

Will, who works as an Operations Manager for Arriva and been refereeing since he was 14, said: “To represent the Eastern Area National Referee Development Group at Dallas is a great honour.

“I was surprised but delighted because although I thought the selection process went well there were several other very good candidates who I felt might get the nod ahead of me.

“I’m now looking forward to the tournament and gaining some valuable international experience that will stand me in good stead as my career progresses.”

He will be housed in the Dallas area during his stay and Pools has donated a signed shirt for his hosts.
