Orrell today put pen to paper on a pro contract at Victoria Park following his transfer from League One Chesterfield.

The 18-year-old had learned his football at the Sunderland Academy before joining Gateshead in January 2015, making six substitute appearances for the Heed towards the end of the season.

Orrell enjoyed a successful trial at Chesterfield last summer and made his Spireites debut last August in a 3–1 Capital One Cup defeat against Carlisle United and played again in the Johnstone’s Paints Trophy against Rochdale.

The Sunderland born attacker went on a three-month loan to Matlock Town before being recalled by boss Danny Wilson in March.

The former Pools promotion-winning manager handed Orrell his Football League debut as an 83rd-minute sub in the 1–0 defeat at Oldham Athletic and he came on again when the Spireites beat Port Vale 4-2 in April.
