Pools have won the race to land the in-demand striker, who netted 32 goals for Hendon in the Isthmian League last season.

Muir was reportedly being tracked by a number of clubs in the National League and higher, so, despite the player's lack of experience in full-time football, this represents an early success in the summer window for Bates and his director of football Craig Hignett.

Bates has had the 24-year-old on his radar since the end of last season.

The strong and powerful striker was at Victoria Park on Thursday to complete a medical and sign his contract.

Muir spent part of last season on trail at Championship outfit QPR, then managed by Ian Holloway, but they did not take up the option of signing the player.

He is Pools' second signing of the summer, following on from the free transfer capture of central defender Myles Anderson from Chester.

Muir has previously had two spells at Hendon as well as stints with Grays Athletic, Wingate & Finchley, VCD Athletic and Leiston.
