Hartlepool United tried to sign Wrexham two-goal hero TWICE this season

Dragons’ debutant Quigley, who pounced on some schoolboy errors from the Pools backline to net a second half, match-winning brace, could easily have been wearing the blue and white of Pools.

Harrison, who had Quigley at The New Saints, revealed he tried to land the big forward on a permanent deal last summer, as well as trying to get him in on loan from Blackpool.

"Scott Quigley scored two, I know his qualities - I gave him his debut," said Harrison.

"I’ve managed him for five years and tried to sign him here on loan and permanent, but it didn’t work out for us.

"He took his goals well, but he’s had them handed on a plate."

Reflecting on the weekend loss, which ensured Pools are winless in nine, a run which stretches back to November, Harrison was at a loss to find anything new to criticise.

"It’s disappointment, it has to be. Anger, disappointment – all those words to go along," he said.

"Again we conceded stupid goals at stupid times, ridiculous.

"We gave away a terrible goal on the counter attack and gave them something to hang on to.

"They came to get whatever they could get and we gave them something.

"We have to make pressure count. We got in some good areas, without the final ball being good enough. But sometimes games end up like that and you have to accept it, keep the back door shut and move on.

"Build from a solid base and a solid platform. At Dagenham we got back to 1-1, and got on top and then give away another terrible goal.

"It’s personal errors and decisions causing problems. I can’t remember when we had the last 20 minutes of a game to turn the screw to win a game. Now it’s about turning the screw to get something."
