Community-spirited young people brightened up deserving children’s day by giving them a day of fun and games.
A group of 16 and 17-year-olds, who are taking the National Citizen Service NCS programme, organised the free fun day at Throston Youth Project in Hartlepool.
Children were treated to activities including a magic show, ball games, beauty corner, face-painting and crafts.
Bianca Owens, who helps run the NCS through Hartlepool United, said: “It was absolutely fantastic and a real success.
“It was part of their course work to do something to help the community. We did a survey which said a lot of people said there was not enough free activities for children so we put a free day on for them.”
The NCS is a four-week programme aimed at school- leavers to help them become more pro-active for themselves and their community.
To pay for the fun day, the NCS students previously did a sponsored dip in the sea and 33-mile walk, all in fancy dress.
