Spectators are being urged to enjoy a motorboat competition involving youngsters from Hartlepool.
Nine youngsters from the town are bidding for the title of Honda RYA Youth RIB Regional Champions during a competition at Hartlepool Marina tomorrow.
The competition, run by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), will see a time trial staged around a marked course, that will require competitors to demonstrate complex boat handling skills.
It will see each competitor having two runs and the fastest times in each category wins.
The RYA will provide two Highfield 460 RIBS (Rigid Inflatable Boats) with 50hp Honda outboard engines for the competition, that will see nine youngsters from Tees & Hartlepool Yacht Club will face strong competition from Sunderland, Coquet & Derwent Reservoir Sailing Clubs.
There are two categories, aged eight to 12 and 13 to 16 years old.
The competitors will battle it out for a much-coveted place in the National Championships, held in Southampton later this year.
An RYA spokesman urged people to enjoy the event.
The spokesman said: “Jackson Dock provides a perfect arena for spectators to enjoy this exiting competition, which will run from about 11am to 1pm.
“The Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship is a national event sponsored by Honda and Highfield RIBS and there are 14 regional heats including the North East.
“Two competitors from each heat go forward to the National Final in September.
“The two regional winners will compete in the national final at the PSP Southampton Boat Show on Sunday, September 13.”
