Two care home workers picked up top award at a national ceremony.
Staff and residents at Yohden Care Complex in Blackhall Colliery are celebrating after two staff members took home awards in the first annual Maria Mallaband and Countrywide care awards.
Senior care assistant Terri-Ann Clarkson and care assistant Sean Thompson were shortlisted as category finalists in the national awards.
Sean took home the ‘Dignity in Care’ award, an award for any member of staff who strives to ensure residents’ dignity is maintained, and Terri-Ann, who was also nominated in the ‘Dignity in Care’ category, won the ‘Judge’s Special Award’, an award for any of the national nominees with outstanding achievements in their field who the judging panel felt delivered an exceptional level of care.
Sean started working at Yohden Care Complex in 2014 and is a popular member of the team among staff, residents and families due to his friendly nature and enthusiasm.
Terri-Ann joined the team at Yohden in February 2013 and has since been appointed to a Senior Care Assistant.
This year marks the first ever annual awards held by national care home operator Maria Mallaband Care Group and Countrywide Care Homes.
The awards were created to acknowledge the efforts of staff and the impact they have on the lives of residents and their families. Residents, colleagues, relatives and visitors placed a staggering 2052 votes which equated to 495 nominees across nine award categories, narrowed down to 6 finalists per category.
Finalists were invited to a gala evening which took place at the Royal Armouries, Leeds enjoying a drinks reception and dinner.
That was followed by the awards presentation and entertainment.
