THE controversial subject of the new hospital at Wynyard planned to replace Hartlepool and North Tees hospitals was brought up in Parliament this week.

Alex Cunningham, MP for Stockton North, which includes Billingham, highlighted the delay during Topical Questions in the House of Commons.

He said: “Health inequality on Teesside is a major issue, but the Government axed plans for our new hospital four years ago.

“I am told that ministers now accept that a new hospital to replace the two hospitals at North Tees and Hartlepool is the right way forward. When will they remove the barriers to the project and give the support that is needed?”

Health minister Jane Ellison replied: “That is certainly something that we will look into.”

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust is waiting for news of a £100 million contribution from the Government towards the £272m scheme.
