RADIOGRAPHERS are set to strike in Hartlepool for the first time in more than 30 years over pay freezes.
Diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy professionals who are members of the Society of Radiographers will take part in a UK-wide strike on Monday, October 20.
It’s unclear how many employees at the University Hospital of Hartlepool’s radiology department will be involved at this early stage, following the ballot which saw 53.7 per cent of members voting in favour of strike action. However, it’s understood that the majority of workers are society members.
Richard Evans, the society’s chief executive officer, said: “Because of inflation, NHS staff have been taking a year-on-year pay cut. Unless we show the government that we are serious about our claim that NHS staff should be treated fairly, it will continue to take advantage of our goodwill.”
