DETERMINED dad Stephen Smith is enjoying a change in lifestyle after eight weeks of competing in a Hartlepool Mail-backed fitness challenge.

It has been no easy task for the 29-year-old to tackle our Weigh Forward training sessions as well as raise his two young children and continue his quest to find work.

But the Easington Road area dad is still producing an impressive change in his health regime.

At the start of the challenge in August, he weighed in at around 20 stone and admitted: “I would like to lose weight and tone up to make life easier playing with my two kids, and so I don’t get out of breath easily.”

Now, he’s lost at least 8lbs, and that was at a weigh in weeks ago.

He can run further than he has ever done before and he has swapped his lunchtime diet of regular visits to the fish and chip shop for a healthy sandwich.

“I have cut down on the bags of crisps as well,” admitted Stephen who is trying to get along to as many fitness sessions as possible while he keeps up his quest for work as an electrician.

“It is difficult for me to run as I am still a 19 stone man, but I can run further than I used to.

“I am fitter, but I am not expecting miracles over the 10 weeks of the campaign.

“It is going to take a lot longer than that.”

Stephen praised the Weigh Forward campaign for helping him to change his lifestyle and described his fellow contestants as “a very nice bunch of people”.

Now, he’s ready for the final push as the challenge enters its last two weeks of competition.

The weight loss challenge will eventually see one person win a hotel stay and one-to-one personal training for two months.

And for one runner-up, a month’s supply of personal training is the fantastic offer in the competition run by the Hartlepool Mail in conjunction with Tavistock Leisure and personal trainer Steven Smith.
