COLLEGE catering students have been praised after they helped promote healthy eating to youngsters at a Hartlepool school.

The British Heart Foundation staged National Wear Red Day to raise vital funds for the charity’s life-saving work.

Catering students from East Durham College, Peterlee, provided a healthy buffet for pupils at Hart Primary School, in Hartlepool.

Sharon Flower, curriculum leader for catering and hospitably at the college, said: “It was a absolutely fantastic event. All the food on offer was fun, easy to make and most importantly, very healthy. Healthy lifestyles don’t have to mean boring food.

Fiona Turner, regional manager with The British Heart Foundation, added: “Hopefully this is the start of a much healthier generation growing up in Hartlepool.”

Steve McDonnell, executive headteacher at Hart Primary School, said: “The children have enjoyed it immensely.”
