ANYONE planning a party to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this summer could be in for a helping hand from the parish council.
Greatham parish councillors will consider sponsoring community run events in the village and South Fens to add to the occasion in June.
The council will talk about the idea when they next meet on Monday.
But they want to hear from anyone who is planning a jubilee event and would welcome a grant to get in touch.
Brian Walker, chairman of the council, said: “Greatham Parish Council will be considering whether it should provide some support for community celebrations for the Diamond Jubilee in its parish which includes South Fens and the village.
“We would welcome any groups or streets that are planning to hold an event in the parish and might like a contribution to register an interest with the parish council by telling us what they are planning and where plus a contact name and address.
“It would also be useful if they could say what they would use any money for, but at the moment we are really just trying to assess what demand there might be.”
A host of events are already planned in the village on jubilee weekend of Saturday, June 2 and Sunday June 3.
Several groups are staging different events to ensure people of all ages have a great time.
Events include church services, a picnic on the village green, open air concert, sports and a proms-style sing-along.
They are being organised and sponsored by The Feast Committee, the Christmas Market, Women’s Institute, parish church, Greatham Village Players, Greatham in Bloom and Greatham Community Association.
