It’s home sweet home for tenant Vera Loynes who received a visit from representatives from Tees Valley Housing to mark her 38th year in her property.
The visit comes as housing provider, which is part of the Thirteen Group, acknowledges 27 tenants who have been in their homes for a combined 675 years.
Martin Hawthorne, Thirteen’s director of development and regeneration, and Clare Brayson, chairman of Tees Valley Housing, visited Vera at her home in Warren Close, Hartlepool, to present her with flowers to celebrate her time in her property.
Mrs Loynes moved into her two-bedroom ground-floor flat near the town centre with her husband on September 1, 1977.
She has raised four children, nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, with another on the way in January.
Former factory worker Mrs Loynes, 83, said: “I know I’ve lived in the block longer than anyone else and I’ve been really happy here.
“So much has happened in this flat and we’ve certainly had some experiences!
“I’ve felt well supported by the staff at the housing company and they’ve been good with me.
“A lot’s changed in the area and it’s nice to live here as the gardens outside have been tidied up a lot and it’s very pleasant.
“We’ve had a really happy time in our home and I’m looking forward to many more happy times here.”
Martin Hawthorne, Thirteen’s Director of Development and Regeneration said: “We have many long-term customers right across the Thirteen Group.
“But Mrs Loynes is one of those who have lived in Tees Valley Housing’s properties the longest.
“It’s always pleasing to see how we’ve been able to support people to live happily in their homes for so many years.
“I hope we can continue to support Mrs Loynes to have many more happy years in her home.”
Clare Brayson from Tees Valley Housing added: “Thirty eight years living in the same neighbourhood is a real achievement - there must have been so many changes in the area over that time.
“It’s been a real pleasure to meet Mrs Loynes and I congratulate and thank her for her time as a Tees Valley Housing customer.”
