A GIRL band linked to a dance school are days away from the next stage in their bid for national glory.

The five-strong Peppermints, from Hartlepool, are in the regional finals of the Open Mic UK contest and will compete in the next stage of the challenge on Saturday, October 22.

The girls are Chloe Cannell-Cass, 10, Ellen Gowland, Olivia Stanton, and Emily O’Connolly, all aged 11, and Kelsey Sadler, 12.

The competition will eventually see one act walk away with a national title, and a grand prize of £50,000.

To win it, the performers need to do more than just sing. They have to generate interest in themselves and their efforts to promote themselves could count towards the final decision.

The regional finals will be held in Newcastle with 19 other acts up against the Hartlepool girls in the 16 and under category.

All will be hoping to win a place in the November national finals at the 02 Arena in London.

The Peppermints have set up the Facebook site Peppermints Hartlepool where people can register their likes for the band. The more likes they receive, the more chance the Peppermints have of winning.
