A FIVE-MILE run is expected to be even better this year after raising £3,000 on its debut last year.

The Hartlepool 5Miler, a sponsored and timed fun run which first took place last October, raised almost £3,000 for Hartlepool & District Hospice and is set to return even bigger and better in 2015.

The run was hosted by the hospice with support from Burn Road Harriers, Hartlepool Borough Council and Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club.

Exactly 100 runners took part and ran from the Yacht Club, to the bottom of Station Lane and back.

Those who took part included members of running clubs from around the region, as well as young people and groups from local businesses.

Hospice Fundraiser Greg Hildreth said: “We have not finalised the date for this year’s event, but will be announcing it in the next couple of weeks.

“It was such a great event last year and a brilliant thing for the hospice to have its very own running event, especially considering it brought out runners from all over the North East to come and take part.

“I would like to repeat my thanks to everyone who supported 2014’s 5Miler and will be looking forward to another great day this year.”
