Fundraisers at Hartlepool & District Hospice are celebrating the record breaking success of this year’s Great North Run team.

Seventy keen runners competed in the half marathon on behalf of the charity.

They surpassed the record for the most money raised by a hospice team of runners which was set at £25,000 in 2014.

This year’s total has passed the £30,000 mark with money still rolling in.

Banks and other employers have been praised for match funding the money raised by staff members running on the day.

A further £500 was donated by hospice partners Seymour Civil Engineering, who were the first-ever vest sponsor for the team.

Senior fundraising manager Julie Hildreth said: “This event has more than doubled its income for us in less than a decade and we are thrilled to see how it continues to flourish.

“We are really fortunate to have such a major international event on our doorstep, and it is wonderful that each year, more and more people want to take part in support of our vital work.”

The hospice is taking names for the 2016 waiting list.
