HOTEL bosses say a new 65-bedroom venue at Hartlepool Marina is expected to open next month.
The five-storey Travelodge Hotel, which is being built at The Lanyard, in Hartlepool, is set to create 12 new jobs.
Bosses at Travelodge say they are “excited” their ambition to open a hotel in town is set to become a reality.
Construction work on the multi-million pound scheme, which has been built on the car park to the east of KFC, next to Vue cinema, started in March with huge steel girders erected.
Work has progressed and the canopies and scaffolding have now been removed ahead of the opening next month.
When it opens, the hotel will include a reception area, bar and a separate ground floor restaurant.
A spokesman for Travelodge said they expect the new hotel to be open in mid-November.
He added: “We are excited that our long-held ambition of opening a hotel in the heart of Hartlepool will soon occur.
“We have no doubt that the hotel will soon prove to be one of our strongest performing across the region, serving both business and leisure customers.”
The hotel chain has previously welcomed the news it will be finished in time for Christmas so there is more choice in accommodation for friends and families visiting people in town over the festive period.
Developer Jomast submitted the planning application to Hartlepool Borough Council and has built the hotel, which will then be rented out to Travelodge.
The ground floor restaurant serving the hotel will be a separate franchise.
Plans for the site, which is known as Metropolitan Park, were unanimously backed by the council’s planning committee in October last year.
Councillors hoped it would prove to be a “catalyst” for other developments, while it was also hoped it would boost tourism.
The development is part of the Jomast Trincomalee Wharf scheme, near the Museum of Hartlepool, which could include a mix of shops, accommodation, offices and restaurants.
The new hotel will have family and double rooms and it will be round the corner from the Premier Inn hotel, off Maritime Avenue.
