Families are being urged not to miss out on big top fun as the circus is in town.
Hundreds of people watched the opening night of The Netherlands National Circus which has set up on the site of the former Jacksons Landing in Hartlepool.
It features an international cast of over 30 performers including spectacular acrobats and funny clowns.
A spokesman for the circus, which is in town until Sunday, said: “We were very pleased with the attendance for the first night and also with the reception.
“We hope to build on that through the rest of the week and see more and more people in the run up to the weekend.
“Our advice to people would be to book early so as not to miss out.”
Organisers say the show is two hours of laughs, thrills, suspense and action.
The circus from Holland features a number of acts making their debut in this country, including aerial performers Duo Extreme.
They perform suspended over a tank filled with water, and even dance under water.
Duo Extreme came first in a festival of circus performers in Germany, beating tough competition to win a public vote.
The Jackson family combine traditional circus acrobatics with a modern twist as they perform an incredible display of daring acrobats on bicycles and unicycles.
Leading the laughs is star clown, Angelo who proves a big hit with all ages for his crazy antics.
The spokesman added: “We are really excited to be able to bring our brand new show to Hartlepool for the first time.
“It is important to remember that in a world full of digital and virtual entertainment with computer games and the internet, nothing can ever beat bringing the whole family together to witness the magic of a live performance.
“Several of our acts touring with us in 2017 will be making their UK debut so we will have many new and exciting feats that have never before been seen in this country.”
Five-year-old Harry Preston from Hartlepool gave the circus the thumbs-up.
The youngster who watched Tuesday’s opening night said: “The circus was lots of fun.
“All of the acts were good but my favourite was the man with the motor bike. He stood on lots of wobbly things and balanced really high.
“I thought it was funny when the clown nearly dropped eggs on us! I also liked the part when the rag doll came out of the box because the Ring Master put the dolls hands and feet together and span her round very fast.
“I enjoyed the circus a lot and will tell my friends all about it.”
The circus is in town until Sunday when it heads for Coventry.
Shows are at 4.45pm and 7.30pm during the week; at 2pm, 4.45pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, and noon and 3pm on Sunday.
