A FUNDRAISER held in memory of Hartlepool’s Princess Becky Bell raised hundreds of pounds for two cancer charities.

Katrina McGurran who is a friend of Becky’s family, organised the event to mark her 34th birthday.

Katrina normally has a party every year and was due to be going on a trip to London to mark the occasion, but decided to cancel her visit to the capital and instead organised the event in Becky’s memory.

With the help of her close friend Vicky Riley, Katrina decorated the room at the Hillcarter Hotel, in Hartlepool’s Church Street, with a princess theme and designed a number of princesses which were on display on the night.

Dozens of people turned out and helped to raise an impressive £700.

That money is now going to be split between Clic Sargent, a children’s cancer charity, and Cancer Research UK.

Katrina, an operations manager who lives in Upton Walk, in Hartlepool, said: “We had a great night and the room looked fab.

“I would like to say a big thank you to all of the businesses which donated and everyone who came along on the night.”

A number of fundraising evenings have been organised in memory of Becky since the brave seven-year-old lost her fight with brain cancer in January this year.

Such was her courage that she was honoured with an emotional musical slideshow tribute at the Pride of Hartlepool awards last month.
