A 10-year-old school pupil has came third in a national language competition.
Isobel Eason, 10, learned Arabic, Portuguese and Mandarin to beat over 1,100 language competition contestants and achieve third place in the EuroTalk Junior Language Challenge.
Isobel, from Wynyard, on the outskirts of Hartlepool, fought off fierce competition in the final to finish third behind a former runner up on Channel 4’s Child Genius, Tudor Mendel-Idowu who took the title.
It isn’t the first time she’s got the final, Isobel also managed to reach the Junior Language Final last year.
Isobel, a pupil at Reh House School in Norton, said: “I was always trying to beat my highest score, which motivated me to learn more of the language. I couldn’t believe it when I finished third.” Isobels’ mother Vicki added: “To see Isobel’s face when she looked at the scoreboard at the end of the final round was an absolute joy. It has amazed me that just a bit of practice every day has resulted in her being able to speak and understand so many languages.”
