PEOPLE are invited to get in the festive spirit this weekend as Greatham gets ready to stage its traditional Christmas market.
The event on Sunday afternoon is set to feature a wide variety of stalls selling home-made wares while children can tell Santa their Christmas wishes by dropping into his grotto.
The festive market, organised by villagers, is one of the highlights of Greatham’s calender and pulls in visitors from a wide area.
Mike McKie, of Greatham Christmas Market Committee, said: “We have all sorts lined up and everybody’s welcome.
“There will be festive stalls selling quality homemade items. Hopefully, they will entice people to spend.”
St John the Baptist Church and forces charity Help For Heroes will be among those raising money at the event.
There will be plenty to keep youngsters entertained with bouncy castles and Santa’s Grotto on The Green thanks to the Greatham Feast Committee.
Organisers also hope to have some carol singers there and any other talented performers can still get in touch to offer their services.
Greatham Community Service will also be serving up hot drinks to keep out the cold.
A grand draw with a top prize of £100 will be drawn during the afternoon, with many other goodies up for grabs.
Mike added: “The market is always well supported.
“We get a lot of people who come, and not just from the village.
“We try and invest as much money back into the community as we get out.”
Money the market committee raises will pay for Greatham Primary School’s Christmas party, as well as funding the following year’s event.
The fun starts on The Green from 4pm.
Organisers say there are still some pitches available for any organisations wanting to promote themselves at the market.
