A HARTLEPOOL store has raised funds for a town charity by raffling a tasty giant chocolate robin.

Sainsbury’s Middle Warren in Hartlepool has raised £400 for the town-based Artrium, which is part of Hartlepool Art Studio which is an independent mental health charity that specialises in getting people back on their feet by way of art therapy

The robin was hand crafted by The Little Chocolate Shop in Leyburn, North Yorkshire and took centre stage at Sainsbury’s throughout December. Customers bought raffle tickets for £1 for the chance to win the robin, which was worth more than £100. A hamper and chocolate treats were on offer as second and third placed prizes. One customer, who dropped in to the store while visiting his family in Hartlepool, bought a raffle ticket and asked the store to donate the prize to a local charity if he was the winner as he lived in London and could not collect the winning prize. The winners were picked by three different members of the store team and the winning ticket was that of the London customer.

Trevor Sherwood, community coordinator for the store, said: “It was exciting to see that our local charity partner had won the raffle. I’m sure they will all enjoy sharing the chocolate or using the robin to create further funds.”
