Should Hartlepool Borough Council chief executive Paul Walker accept his £10,000 rise?

A trade union has written to Hartlepool Mayor Stuart Drummond to ask his cabinet to reconsider the £10,000 pay rise given to council chief executive Paul Walker.

Edwin Jeffries, branch secretary of Unison in Hartlepool, said members had responded with “extreme anger and disbelief” after it was confirmed Mr Walker’s basic salary had increased from £157,205 to £168,000 a year.

Union chiefs say the rise is “grossly insensitive”.
