Crazed Callum Barclay, 18, punched, kicked and grabbed her around the neck until she blacked out.

She recovered to find him slapping her face and apologising, before he lost control again and he resumed the attack.

Then he turned his anger on her Nissan Micra car and he smashed every window in it with a house brick which police found inside the footwell after he fled the scene.

Prosecutor Emma Atkinson told Teesside Crown Court Barclay had a previous assault conviction from 2012 for putting his hands around another victim’s throat.

He had another conviction from 2014 for causing unnecessary suffering to an animal by hitting it with a spade.

Andrew Teate, defending, said that Barclay had been in custody since his arrest for the May 15 attack outside the victim’s home in Hartlepool.

Barclay, of Duke Street, Hartlepool, was jailed for 12 months and given a five-year restraining order banning him from contacting the victim after he pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm assault and criminal damage.

Judge Tony Briggs said: “It is perfectly plain that you were irrationally jealous. It’s perfectly plain that she was held about the neck and you assaulted her about the face. Custody is inevitable.”
