The new AlphaBiolabs Walk-in Centre based in Newcastle is the latest in a nationwide network, where DNA and drug testing samples can be collected securely and for free without having to make an appointment first.

The firm said the centre will be particularly useful for legal tests, which require "a strict chain of custody" to protect the integrity of the samples so the results can be used as evidence in court proceedings.

The clinic in Osborne Road, Jesmond, is open every Wednesday from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

AlphaBiolabs claims to be the only UK-based laboratory which offers this free sample collection service. Testing is carried out its own laboratory in Warrington where accurate DNA and drug testing results can be made available on the same day if required

Director Rachel Davenport said: “We are very excited to be opening the doors of our latest Walk-in Centre in Newcastle.

"At AlphaBiolabs we’re all about giving our customers options, and this collection service is proving very popular in other areas of the country. Whether you are a member of the public, a law firm or business, this service will make the whole process easier and more cost- effective.”

Members of the public can also pick up a paternity test kit from the Walk-in Centre to enable them to discreetly collect samples to determine biological relationships.

AlphaBiolabs also stocks DNA testing kits at Home Bargains stores nationwide.

The firm said the kits are proving to be very popular with the public and the rapid results reduce the waiting time. Last year, the company was recognised by a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for their innovative DNA testing services.
