Jobless figures fall across Hartlepool and East Durham

THE number of people claiming jobseeker’s allowance in Hartlepool last month was the lowest since November 2011.

The number of claimants in the town was down to 4,414 in May, 87 less than the previous month.

Despite the drop, the percentage of people claiming the benefit in the town is still higher than the regional and national average.

The number of people claiming jobseekers allowance in Easington last month also fell, from 3,355 to 3,254.

The Stockton North constituency, which covers Wolviston and Billingham, also saw a fall in claimants in May by 66.

A total of 4,026 people now claim the benefit in the area.

There was also a fall in claimants in Sedgefield from 2,455 to 2,413.
