A fast-food restaurant in Hartlepool will close today.
Burger King, at Anchor Retail Park, off Marina Way, has confirmed the store is to close, but have not said why or how many jobs are involved.
It is also unclear what will now happen to the site.
One man who spoke to the Mail said a friend of his is one of the staff members affected.
“Some were told on Friday and some on Saturday that it’s going to close at the end of the week,” said the man, who did not want to be named.
“There must be about 15 to 20 who work there altogether and a lot of them are young ones so it’s going to be tough.
“I’ve been told they’re having meetings over the next few days to sort out the details.”
The branch hit the headlines in June last year when it closed its doors suddenly after bailiffs moved in to repossess the premises.
A sign was posted in the window saying that, as of June 24, 2014, the property was in the possession of bailiffs.
It went on to say the property was now legally occupied by the landlords, and that any attempt to gain access would be reported to police.
The restuarant was run by a franchise under the name of Windmill (NI) Restaurants, which had a registered office in Belfast but previously been wound up.
A spokeswoman from Burger King told the Mail: “We can confirm that this restaurant is closing and will confirm additional information if it becomes available.”
