Jubilee fun

COMMUNITY leaders have joined forces to organise two events to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The Burn Valley North Residents’ Association and St Matthew’s Community Centre have arranged two events to be held on Saturday, June 9, at the community centre in Elwick Road.

A street party, which will include a party tea, games and crafts, will be held between noon-3pm with lunch at 1.30pm.

Tickets cost £1.

Meanwhile, a social evening would be held on the night for those aged over 16.

The evening will include live 50s and 60s music featuring Dead Kat Bounce between 6pm-10pm.

There will be a buffet supper and tickets cost £4.

In a bid to get people in the mood there is an optional red, white and blue dress code.

Street party tickets are available from Dawn Robinson by calling 07725 854473 while social evening tickets are available from Barbara Butcher on (01429) 298241.
