CHILDREN can enjoy a range of activities during the school holidays thanks to a council-run childcare service.

Bosses at Hartlepool Borough Council’s OSCAR (Out Of School Care) programme is staging a host of full-day activities for children between the ages of three and 16 at its new home at West Hartlepool Rugby Club, in the town’s Catcote Road.

Parents are will be able to drop off their children from 8am where breakfast will be provided before they then embark on an action-packed day of “fun and thrills” prior to being collected by parents before 5.45pm.

Sandra Robinson, the council’s out of school co-ordinator, says there is an impressive programme of holiday activities awaiting youngsters.

“Our new venue at West Rugby Club is ideal for the children because we have lots of space indoors and an expanse of grassed area which is great for outdoor activities.

“This year the staff have put together a really impressive programme to make sure that children have a fantastic time over the summer holidays.

“We have activities within the centre such as Olympic crafts, a Disney-theme day, model making and sports and games.

“We also have some great trips to places such as Preston Park, Mowbray Park, in Sunderland, Castle Eden Walkway and Pallister Park, in Middlesbrough.

“If parents are having to juggle working and looking after their children during the summer holidays, OSCAR’S could just be the answer.

“Children have a great time with us and parents can relax knowing that their children are in safe hands.

“We have a really experienced team and offer an inclusive service catering for all children’s needs.”

The fun gets under way on Monday, July 23, and the weekday sessions run until Friday, August 31.
