YOUNGSTERS certainly showed Hartlepool has got talent at a successful event for the town’s carnival.

Children impressed by singing and dancing in Hartlepool Carnival’s Children’s Talent Competition.

Parents and family members packed into the Headland Social Club for the event which was hailed as another success by organisers.

A carnival spokesman said: “It was a fantastic turnout for another well attended event.

“I was very impressed by the standard of the talent shown by the children.

“There was lots of singing and dancing and was just a great event.”

Special thanks went in particular to Hartlepool singer Eric Leighton who hosted the talent competition and organised the judges.

Youngsters performed in two age categories, one for performers between five and 10 and the older section for those up to 16.

Cash prizes were awarded to the top three in each category with top spot bagging £30, second £20 and third place picking up £10.

Young people took centre stage again yesterday for the Carnival Princess contest held in the Victoria Arms. It was open to girls aged 11 to 16 with the winner playing a part in this weekend’s events.

Today promises to be another busy day for the carnival with the judging of the Best Dressed House and Business competitions.

Homes and businesses on the Headland have been encouraged to get into the carnival spirit by decorating their properties.

Organisers stress all entries must be in before noon on prior to judging at 5.30pm.

The best dressed house will win £50 while the winning business will be presented with a trophy.

Crowds are expected to be out in force tomorrow afternoon for the annual parade.

The procession starts from 4pm at the Town Square and when groups and individuals will walk through the streets in fancy dress.

There will also be jazz and pipe bands, stilt walkers, a New Orleans band and Mod scooters.

The carnival comes to a close on Sunday with the popular raft race at the Fish Sands.

And there will be live music throughout the afternoon at the Harbour of Refuge pub.
