FUNDRAISERS have handed over hundreds of pounds and vowed to repeat a flipping good event.
Hartlepool Rotary Club joined forces with two town businesses to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
They held an event on Shrove Tuesday that saw scores of people pay for pancakes and drinks at The Grand Hotel, in Swainson Street, and The Place in the Park Cafe, in Ward Jackson Park.
Sheila Jackson, treasurer of Hartlepool Rotary Club, said: “We raised £420, which exceeded the expectations we had.
“We have been absolutely bowled over by the support we received. Because of that we will do the same again next year.
“Hopefully we will be able to get more people involved next year as it is such a fun way to raise money.”
The Rotary Club is now focusing on its Big Raffle that will run during April, May and June.
Last year it raised more than £6,300 for local causes.
The club will provide at least £1,000-worth of prizes with charities wishing to benefit asked to sell the tickets.
The tickets will be issued at 7.30pm on Monday, March 19, in the Grand Hotel following the club’s weekly meeting.
The draw itself will then take place in the hotel at 7.30pm on Monday, August 13.
All charities and good causes wishing to take part in the raffle, or any businesses wishing to offer their own raffle prizes or vouchers as part of the event should contact Ted Jackson, Rotary Club communications officer on (01429) 275967 or by emailing: email@example.com
