Letter of the week: 'I wait with bated breath for Hartlepool's Church Street vision to appear

Reading this week's editions of the Hartlepool Mail I got this overwhelming feeling of deja vu coming over me.
Our writer doubts whether Church Street will ever look like the artist's impression above. Our writer doubts whether Church Street will ever look like the artist's impression above.

To digress; does anyone know exactly who this artist is that produces these pretty pictures and how much he charges the tax payers of Hartlepool?

Correct me if I am wrong, please do, but isn’t the latest picture of an upgraded Church Street the same picture that was produced for the original multi-million pound upgrade of Church Street some twenty years ago?

It seems that the lady with the pram walking through a fully pedestrianised Church Street has gone missing?

Talking of missing things, the latest artist’s impression of the Marina leaves me somewhat puzzled. While the paddle steamer (without café) is shown, the Dry Dock and the Trincomalee are missing.

Does Councillor Akers-Belcher know something we don’t? And why are the yachts shown berthed with their sails up? Artistic licence perhaps?

Up to now we have had a nightclub on Jacksons Landing. Shops on Jacksons Landing, Flats and a Big Wheel on Jacksons Landing and now there is going to be a water sports facility, a new maritime museum and a 4* Hotel on Jacksons Landing. All on a piece of derelict land that was hardly big enough for a shopping mall and a car park?

I just hope that the people of Hartlepool get what is promised, however, I wait with bated breath.

Edward Powell,

Birchill Gardens,

Hartlepool.
