A-level results: Dyke House College congratulates its first candidates

A college is celebrating after its first set of A-level cohorts collected their results.

Dyke House College, a Northern Education Trust Academy, receiving its very first A-level results for its Sixth Form – opened in September 2014 – which included some wonderful successes for pupils in year 13.

Its leaders say with a great deal of hard work on the part of both students and teaching staff, 55% of applicants received one or more offers from highly selective universities, with many students receiving the full five university offers.

The results heralded the school’s very first medic, Beth Scott, who is taking up her place to study medicine at Newcastle University in September.

Beth said: “I’m so happy to be realising my dream of entering the medical profession.
“I can’t thank Dyke House College enough for all the support they have given me.”

Celebrating with her are Matthew Watson and Lewis Robinson, who achieved A* A* A and A* A* A A respectively. Both are progressing to Durham University this autumn.

Matthew, who is to read computer science, said: “I’m so pleased that all my hard work has paid off.
“I’m looking forward to beginning my course at Durham.”

Lewis, going on to read natural sciences, expressed his excitement at achieving his academic ambitions: “I am so pleased to be going to Durham to realise my ambition to study natural sciences although I am sad to be leaving the supportive and nurturing environment at Dyke House where the staff have really pushed me to success over the last seven years.”

Andrew Murphy, head of Dyke House College, said the students had, “worked incredibly hard to achieve grades they truly deserve.”

He added: “They all have incredible futures ahead of them and we are delighted to see our inaugural cohort progress on to higher education and further training.”

Year 12 students also achieved some fantastic AS results, despite changes to the qualifications, which have seen major upheaval and uncertainty across the country.

Tom Clennett, Lilly Grant and Kate Hardy were amongst those who achieved A grades across all their subjects.

Ian Kershaw, chief executive of Northern Education Trust, added: “Dyke House College has turned in a marvellous set of A-level results on its first ever A-level results day.
“This demonstrates that with strong leadership, high quality teaching and the right commitment from our students, anything is possible.

“Everyone – both staff and students - are to be congratulated.”
