YOUNGSTERS can prepare for leaving the comfort of their parents at a group that helps give them a taste of what to expect at nursery.
The Nursery Here I Come session runs at the Lynnfield Centre, in Elcho Street, off Murray Street, every Tuesday, from 9.30am-11am.
Lesley Shilson, administration assistant for the north locale of Hartlepool Children’s Centres, said: “It’s a play group but with the intention of helping to get children prepare for nursery.
“We also include things like potty training and ‘dump the dummy’, and it aims to give the youngsters that little bit extra confidence.
“It’s also about reassuring the parents, and giving them a little bit more confidence about their child starting nursery as well.”
The free sessions are aimed at two to three-year-olds.
New to the centre is a ‘Twins Plus’ group.
It is held every Tuesday at the centre from 1pm-3pm, and is for families with twins or multiple births, as well as for mums expecting twins and multiples.
It replaces a similar twins group which was held at the children’s centre in the grounds of St Helen’s Primary School.
Lesley said: “It is for anyone with twins or multiples and they don’t have to live in this area, it is a town-wide activity.
“Anyone who has just found out they are expecting a multiple birth can also come along.”
The two groups are just a small number of examples of a host of free activities running each week at the centre for all members of the family.
Other activities include a well baby clinic, baby time sensory play sessions, credit union, ante-natal classes, benefit advice, messy play, little ‘uns, early bird pregnancy guidance, and a fruit and vegetable scheme that provides bags of fresh produce at a reasonable price.
