Mail editor to be guest speaker at school

THE Mail's editor will be the guest speaker at a school's annual event.

Joy Yates will deliver a presentation at English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College on Thursday.

Her talk will form part of the John Bell Lecture which is a long-running event established as a tribute to the former head of the school, Father John Bell.

Fr Bell was a Catholic priest who brought together, in 1975, five schools from across the town as the amalgamated English Martyrs School.

Tickets for the event, which starts at 7pm, are available to the public free of charge from the school.

Joy will give a 30-40 minute presentation and then invite questions from the audience.

Joy said: "I am honoured to have been asked to deliver a presentation at this prestigious evening. My talk will give an insight to journalism looking at recent changes and what it's like to be part of the industry. I will also talk about the Mail's role in the community.

"I am looking forward to answering a host of interesting and challenging questions from the audience."
