Mail has Cuban feel

JULIE Humphries may be a former Hartlepudlian – but she’s still hugely proud of her roots.

And when she got the chance to spread the word about Hartlepool in Cuba, she jumped at the chance. Julie and her family took a copy of the Mail’s Proud To Be A Poolie poster with them to spread the word about Hartlepool.

Julie now lives in Liverpool where she moved 22 years ago with her husband Jim.

Julie said: “We now have two daughters, Ashleigh, 16, and Jamie-Leigh, 14. My mam still lives on The Fens and she sent me your Proud to be a Poolie poster to take on holiday with us.

“The photos were taken at our hotel, Riu Playa Turquesa, and in the town of Guardalavaca on the island of Cuba.”

Our thanks go to them for backing our Poolie campaign.

Why not take your chance to show your passion about your town?

All we want you to do is pick up a copy of our new poster from the Hartlepool Mail reception or download it from our website at It contains the slogan Proud To Be A Poolie. Take it with you whenever you go on holiday or go away for a short break.
