Mail readers in their droves have called for the return of a festive bus which was a regular fixture in Hartlepool for two decades.
The 'Santa Bus', 1972 Hartlepool Transport Bristol RE single-decker became a legend in the area as it carried Santa’s sleigh on its roof every Christmas for around 20 years.
The bus, registration OEF 77K still exists – minus its sleigh – and sadly is about to be scrapped by the Lincolnshire Gliding Club, which has been using it a mobile messroom.
But members of the Hartlepool Transport Facebook group are now hoping that the bus can be saved.
Our story on the rescue attempt got a huge reaction from readers, with many saying the return of the bus would be welcome.
On the Mail's Facebook page, Natalie Newnes wrote: "Yes for sure! Loved waiting for the bus to come."
Tim Brown said: "Yes. Loved this as a kid. Sure sign Christmas was on its way."
Alistair Stuart Coultas wrote: "Hope so kids will love it to be back."
Diane Roberts wrote: "Absolutely bring back the Christmas bus."
Paula Gilbraith said: "Aw I loved this when I was a kid."
Tony Slimmings wrote: "Wow, rode on that bus so many times."
Vikki Noble wrote: "Yes it was so exciting when we were young."
However, Sarah HB argued: "Haven't we got better things to spend our money on?"
