A MAN has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening head injuries after a smash.
The 26-year-old driver was anaesthetised at the scene after the one-car crash in Blackhall Colliery at around 2pm today.
He was then airlifted to James Cook University Hospital, and said to be suffering with “life threatening injuries”.
A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance said: “We were called to assist North-East road paramedics with a male patient who was involved in a single vehicle collision.
“He was anaesthetised at the scene by the air ambulance doctor before being flown to James Cook University Hospital.
“The flight took just nine minutes, he sustained serious injuries.”
