A man has been charged after a woman was allegedly threatened with a knife in Hartlepool.
Police are appealing to trace a member of the public they say was at the scene of the incident, which happened at about 4pm last Thursday on York Road.
A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "The member of the public spoke with an officer very briefly at the scene before the officer began to search the area.
"When the officer returned, the member of the public had gone.
"The 38-year-old female victim was unharmed during the incident.
"A 27-year-old man was charged with threatening a person with a blade or sharply pointed article in a public place and was due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on Saturday, October 14.
Officers would like to speak to the male member of the public as he may be able to assist with their inquiries.
