Man charged over theft of Bradley Lowery collection box

A man has been charged after a charity box collecting money for brave Bradley Lowery was stolen.

Stephen Whitworth, 35, of Great North Road, Chester-le-Street, was due to appear before Newton Aycliffe magistrates this afternoon charged with theft.

The collection box was taken from the counter of The Lunch Box, in Yoden Road, Peterlee, yesterday.

This morning, Durham Police tweeted a picture of the money inside a transparent evidence bag with the words: "We have got your money back mate!!"

The force said the arrest came as a result of information from members of the public.

Blackhall youngster Bradley, five, is battling terminal neuroblastoma.
