A MOTORIST has died after a two-car smash outside a petrol station.
The man in his 70s died after his car apparently collided with another vehicle in Wheatley Hill, County Durham.
The crash happened outside the Jet garage on the A181 at around 9.50am today, October 8.
A Durham Constabulary spokesman said: “While the full circumstances are still being investigated, it appears the collision happened as a Toyota car heading west attempted to turn into the garage forecourt. As it did so it collided with a Peugeot car heading in the opposite direction.
“Sadly, the driver of the Toyota, who is thought to be in his seventies, died a short time later from his injuries. The Peugeot driver is thought to have received minor injuries only.”
The road was closed and was not expected to be re-opened until 2pm at the earliest.
Any witnesses are asked to contact the force’s collision investigation unit on (0191) 3752159.
