A MAN was taken to hospital after plunging 50ft down a ravine.
Eighteen firefighters were involved in a rescue mission at Castle Eden Dene, in Peterlee, after a man slipped from a path and fell down a bank into the area known locally as Jacob’s Ladder.
The man, in his 30s, who was with two friends, was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham with neck and back injuries and cuts and bruises.
He had been drifting in and out of consciousness as firefighters battled to rescue him.
Two crews from Peterlee Fire Station, one from Seaham and a rescue crew from Coulby Newham, on Teesside, carried out the rescue.
The incident happened just before midnight and firefighters spent two hours at the scene.
