Drivers are still facing traffic problems after an accident involving a mobility scooter in Hartlepool.
Police have closed the A689 Belle Vue Way in Hartlepool, leaving queues of traffic southbound between the Burn Road junction and Oxford Street junction.
Officers have yet to release any information, but witnesses say the accident involved an elderly man on a mobility scooter.
Pictures show the scooter smashed in half and crutches scattered in the road, as well as a badly-damaged Honda Civic and several police vehicles. Witnesses say a man was hurt in the accident.
One man said: “Somebody on a mobility scooter has been badly injured. The scooter is a write-off. It’s smashed to smithereens.
“I don’t know whether it’s been a crash with a car or not, I can’t see. It is an elderly man.”
The accident happened at about 12noon today.
All roads have been closed until further notice and all vehicles and buses have been rerouted.
Cleveland Police confirmed there had been an accident and that road closures were in place, but could not give any more details.
Meanwhile, people have been leaving comments about the incident on social media.
“I just seen it I hope the poor man is okay,” one said. Another said: “My husband said it looked bad – police everywhere.”
A facebook user wrote: “There’s been a crash, I think, and there’s police all over” and another added: “I watched this happen. It looked nasty, poor bloke. Hope he’s okay.”
