A REVELLER climbed 100ft up a floodlight tower before throwing items at police who were trying to talk him down.
Officers and a police negotiator spent two hours trying to talk the man down from a tower in West View Road, Hartlepool, early yesterday.
Police were alerted by a passer-by at around 6.50am and arrived at the scene to find the man on top of the tower.
He then started damaging the lights, throwing fragments down at the police on the ground and asking them to fight him.
Almost two hours later, the man finally made his way back down to the ground.
A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage.
A police spokesman said: “The incident was called in by a passer-by at 6.48am on Sunday.
“When we arrived, there was a man on a lighting rig which is used to light up the construction sites and football pitches.
“The negotiator was called and the man came down at around 8.45am.”
